- Hey, try putting yourself in the software developer's shoes. These
- people have to make a living, so why cheat them out of what we owe them
- if we use their software?
-
- I'll admit...often software seems to be priced high. But part of the idea
- behind Shareware is that the cost is considerably reduced by not having
- to pay for packaging, fancy manuals, etc. and yet you still get some
- suport (at least you're supposed to) from the author. Further, I find
- with Amiga software in general, when compared to software for other
- platforms, it costs less, and you seem to get more bang for your buck.
- So I think we have less excuse for piracy on the Amiga. When I see the
- prices for some software packages for the PC, I have to laugh. To me,
- it's outrageous. And then often you have to go out and buy more books
- just to learn about the software you already paid lot of dough for.
-
- I also realize that the Shareware idea can be abused, because sometimes
- the software is not worth it. But that's why you get to try it out and
- determine first if it's what you want. If you don't like it, simply
- delete it from your system and forget about it. But I myself have found
- lots of Shareware/PD stuff that is decent, and for that I'd like to thank
- those people that provide it. Keep it up!
-
- I'm not any better than anyone else...I've used pirated software before
- (boo! hiss!). But now I'm trying to discourage it. Also, the more that
- piracy goes on, the more that programmers are going to lose in the end,
- and the more annoying things we'll get with our software, like code
- wheels, dongles, etc.
-
- So please...don't support piracy. If it continues to grow, prices will
- just go up higher and higher, programmers will give up programming, and
- eventually the Amiga market just might die.
-
- Thanks for reading.
